Ok I know it's 850pm on a Monday. But this is the dirtiest Cafe Rio I have ever seen. Behind the counter was a mess. The guy who helped us was rude and sloppy. Then the drink counter was also a mess. If this was my first experience for Cafe Rio I would never come back. I am glad I have not seen this before. But someone needs to fix this.

Good selection of Mexican fare, beverages include everything from diet Dr Pepper to four flavors of iced tea. They are missing free Wi-Fi Internet connection service. Portions are large. Flavor is good. Bulk up on the burrito. Convenient when traveling on the interstate. They recently upgraded the freeway access at this exit. Fast service if you can manage to miss the peak dining hours.

We love Mexican food so anytime were in cedar we grab a burrito to take home for dinner! My husband loves the smothered chicken burrito and I always get the steak burrito. Don't forget to order a big thing of the amazing house dressing! It goes great on every meal! The environment is comfortable, fun and surrounded with noise and lots of people. The employees are great and and always full of spunk!

Normally, I am a cafe rio fan. However this place was filthy! Tables had not been wiped and floor was dirty. I am shocked. The dirtiest chain I've ever been in. The manager should be fired!

Pretty much like Qdoba or Chipotle. Although, it was impressive to see them making the tortillas in front of us. I really liked the chocolate flan. Would recommend trying that for sure.

We stopped at the Cedar City location late at night on the way to Provo from Las Vegas. Even though it was clear that they were shutting down for the night we were still served an incredibly tasty meal. I got the usual Sweet Sweet Pork Barb Burrito Enchy style with hot sauce no rice. And my Dad got the Chicken Quesadilla. There was one worker, taking orders, making food, and running the cash register with more than a few people in line. We had to wait a bit but she worked really hard and delivered us the best Cafe Rio experience we both have ever had. My dad said it was the best Quesadilla he had eaten in his life. Props to that lone worker last Wednesday night.

Slow and they were out of steak

My man Troy helped me out a lot. My girlfriend asked me to scout out Cafe Rios on her way for a road trip. I decided to go one step further and order her food and have it paid for when she got there. Troy took my call at first and understood what I was trying to do. After I was recommended to place an order online, I called back to check on it. He went above and beyond to make sure it was ready and waiting when she got there.

The service was excellent and the taste of our tamales were tasty. Large servings of food almost too much to eat. Had lunch while traveling and have found most Cafe Rio food consistent in quality. Would highly recommend!

Food was good as all Cafe Rios, but we were surprised to see pork in the chiles rellenos when they typically come filled with cheese.

One of our favorite places to eat. If you have a sweet tooth, try the Pork Barbacoa burrito. It's in a very convenient location. Our town has a heated debate between Costa Vida and Cafe Rio. Our family prefers Cafe Rio and we've eaten there hundreds of times. Tortillas made fresh, barbacoa smothered is my favorite burrito in town and I've never once had a bad experience. If you go on Taco Tuesday, they have special rates that competes with Del Taco, however, this also brings in a flood of college students. Keep that in mind.

''my review is subjective" 3.5 stars First time here, they don't have a Cafe Rio in LA. The best thing I could say about my one visit which was to go was that the tortilla's are homemade, very large and tasty. I thought this place was a slightly better version than that of a Chipotle. Similar set up, but tastier. I was satisfied with my meal. "great tortiallas"

Ok, yes I'm from California, and I am half Hispanic, but considering this food is made for everyone else, I think it's a great choice.

I feel like I'm being rushed in and out every time I go in here. The food is consistently good, and I go here quite a bit. The quesadilla, and enchilada style burritos are my go to dishes. Place is clean, but usually there is nowhere to sit. It the kind of place where soccer moms take their kids to annoy other people.

  • Kimberli T.

I am sitting in the drive through lane and have been for over ten minutes. At this point, I just want to see how long I actually sit here before they take my order. The kid keeps coming over the speaker and telling me "it's going to be a while before I can take your order." I'm not sure if they are short staffed or they just don't know how to manage a drive up window. I should have gone inside. There isn't even a line in there.

We went on a Sunday (the day of this review), which is amazing to begin with. Are they open on Sundays to compete with Costa Vida which is closed? (I'm guessing.) However, the wait was longer than a normal Cafe Rio rush. The poor man on the assembly line was overwhelmed. He was working hard! Good for him. This problem could be fixed with maybe one more person staff on a Sunday. Great experience refueling on a long road trip.

Cafe Rio has good food, but this location is trashy. Not particularly clean with sub par employees. Some friends of one of the workers were in line behind us, and the worker was bragging about his recent run in with the police where he got charged with reckless driving, speeding, and possession of marijuana. How dumb can you be? I will opt for Costa Vida next time I'm in town.

  • Willow J.

I always give this location the benefit of the doubt and they ALWAYS disappoint! Super slow, employees are rude and treat you like you're in convincing them. Bathrooms are a mess! Not enough employees! Good food tho. I love the Henderson nv location and their staff. They are friendly there and food is better! They have way more staff too!

On the road passing through. The food was okay. The dining room and patio were filthy! We almost left.

    (1)
  • Sheri M.

Stopped here for a quick lunch on our way through and was very disappointed. The long line moved unbearably slow and employees acted like they had nowhere to be. Wasn't concerned at all about speeding up the process. Bad service. To top it off, the place was filthy... We couldn't find a clean table anywhere inside so we had to go outside. The bathroom was disgusting! What happened to this place? Terrible.

The food was reliably good. I was already a Cafe Rio fan. However, the service left something to be desired. I ordered online in advance in an effort to avoid waiting. They gave almost a 40 minute wait time (a little long). When I got there after the appointed time, the regular line was rather short. I approached the "take-out" line, and they said it would be a few minutes. I then realized that they hadn't started my order. This would be ok if the place was slammed, but it just wasn't that busy. I had kids waiting in the car, and it ended up taking a REAALLLY long time. It appeared that there was a new guy taking care of the drive-thru and take-out orders, and he seemed overwhelmed. I don't see the incentive of ordering ahead of time, and this irritated me a little bit.

  • Phillip B.

Went there for lunch two days in a row. Pretty impressed with cafe rio. I thought everything was good and so did my two co workers. Had a wait in line both days to I der but everything was worth it.

Gotta love some Cafe Rio! This one is in the perfect spot on our drive up to p-town or Salt Lake. We usually stop and get gas, and grab a bite at Cafe Rio. Of course the pork is the most amazing thing, it doesn't really matter what you put it on or wrap it with. Right now my current favorite is the Pork Nachos... Soooo good. The wife is loving the pork tacos and our favorite part is that the kid's quesadillas are free! My kids are always so excited to get their quesadilla with the strawberry on top (and we love it too because they usually don't finish them, and we get to taste some of the shells which taste great too). Anywho, definitely recommend stopping by CR to get some grub on the drive through Cedar City!

Love Cafe Rio but as we were passing through we noticed they had a drive-thru, so we thought this might be quick...Boy were we ever wrong. We waited in line forever and then got up the window and was told the computer deleted our order. Had to wait again forever to get our food. I understand problems arise but I kind of got the feeling from the worker that it was somehow our fault. She seemed like she didn't care if she was there or not, and us too for that matter. Once we got the food I got a cheese quesadilla and I ordered a pork quesadilla. There was no pork to be seen. I was just happy to get back on the road. Won't try this one again. I really don't like to leave a negative review, but it really was poor service.

If you are a Cafe Rio fan, the Cedar City store is the worst. Bad service, inconsistent food, drive through is a joke. If you want Cafe Rio drive south to St George for a far better experience. I keep hoping the Cedar Store will get better management, but time after time I'm disappointed.

  • Shannon B.

Cafe Rio is always good and the Cedar City store is no exception. I love the Veggie Salad. Really good, who needs meat. Everything here seems very fresh. Its not really fast food and its not really a sit down place. Prices are pretty reasonable, the portions are large and taste great. Lots of parking.

  • Andrew L.

Holy hell! I stood in line for 5 minutes and it didn't budge. I've been to a number of cafe rio restaurants and have never seen a line stay motionless for so long. I walked out without even ordering anything. I noticed a lot if people did the same thing too after I left. It wasn't even that busy.

  • Natan T.

Food was great as always at cafe rio... Girl did not know what she was doing as far as service.

    (4)
  • David L.

Good salad. The pork is amazing. The prices are fair, and the portions are huge. Not a lot of options for dieters, I'll be honest...even with the salad they put it on a fresh made flour tortilla with melted cheese on it. The staff were a-okay, and the food was fresh. Not a lot of other dining options so close to the freeway onramp. This Cafe Rio has a drive through as well.

Cafe Rio is easily my favorite Mex restaurants but this one has gone severely downhill. The food always ends up decent but their service is bad, disrespectful, and loud. Last week my wife and I went to get a pork salad and he said they were out of regular lettuce but he had some shredded lettuce right there. He pulls it out from under the counter with a gallon of water in the bottom and throws it sopping wet into the pan. Mind you it was just water but it made the whole thing soggy and gross. The station was filthy and the few workers who were doing anything good there (i.e. actually cleaning and working) were getting made fun of LOUDLY. Used to be a good store, needs new management and a dozen new employees if this nonsense is happening. Cafe Rio's business model is awesome and nearly fool proof, don't know what happened here in the past 3 years.

Food is good but the staff was so rude. And the place was a MESS. You can clearly see there cooking space and it was so gross. Food is so good though.

  • Dino S.

Maybe we caught them off guard on a stormy Sunday but it seemed they weren't that prepared with items not available to order. Staff seemed a bit confused and the portions were kept small because there wasn't enough left over for the next person to be served! Food was tasty

  • Kevin F.

Best Mexican chain I have ever eaten at. Portions are large. Probably wasn't the best choice for lunch in the middle of a 8+ hour drive (very full). But delicious!

I am a fan of Café Rio...in Vegas, but on our recent visit to this one, we were greatly disappointed. They were out of the meat we wanted, and there was a 20 minute wait for more- at dinner time on a Sunday night?. It didn't appear there was a supervisor around, if there was, you need to hire someone with more experience and maturity. The only employees were young kids and they had very unhelpful attitudes. Generally unwelcoming and unhappy faces, maybe they wanted to get rid of us so they could go home? We ordered three tacos and requested the mild salsa which was ladled on the tacos like soup it was so watery, maybe you should try a slotted spoon? We frequent the Cedar City area but from now on we'll definitely cross Café Rio of our list of stops!

I have eaten here many times and have never had a bad experience until recently.I ordered the chicken enchilada plate. The pinto beans were a little hard(obviously undercooked),as was the rice. And the enchilada sauce was too salty.I ended up taking it back for a refund.Yuck!

  • Jessica B.

I love cafe rio! But the tostada and salad are way to soupy from the beans. Could you try and strain them better? At least for the tostadas!

  • Nicole B.

This Cafe Rio is a little different than other Cafe Rios. There's a separate kids menu, which is kinda nice. They also have a board with "healthier eating" suggestions, like order the salad without a tortilla, use fresca salsa instead of dressing, etc. Plus, there's a drive-thru (not that I'd suggest eating anything from here in your car...) Other than that, it's the same Cafe Rio fare that you get at other locations. As you will glean from reading through the other reviews, the Barbacoa Pork is either a love it or hate it kind of thing. I'm a hate it (sickeningly sweet) but my husband gets it every time without fail. But I do like a good chicken salad, (yes, sans tortilla, extra fresca) Overall, it's a nice, fresh lunch option. Not real "mexican" food, but a good satisfying lunch.

    tacos with amazing homemade tortillas.

The food was amazing, huge portilons, a little pricey, but well worth it. Its clean and the people working there are fun and friendly. Will definatley visit again.

One of the best Mexican fast food chains I've been to. Had the fire roasted chicken tacos. Very flavorful. Everything was fresh - you can them making the tortillas. Our chicken came off the grill while we were waiting in line. Downside - the place is a bit disorganized (but then we went in just after the dinner rush). Expect to finds kids everywhere (and not always well behaved either). All in all, worth a visit.

    Great fresh Mexican.

  • James W.

Excellent food. Has a Drive-thru, but treat it like takeout. It's far too messy (in a good way) to eat in the car, whether driving or parked. Learned that the hard way with their burrito "plate". (note to self: in a battle between aluminum foil dish and plastic knife, the knife wins.)

    (4)
  • Jen S.

The "Pork Barbacoa"......gross. It's sickeningly sweet and does not taste the way pork should taste. If you want good Mexican food in Cedar City, go to Don Miguel's.

  • Kathy T.

For the money you cant beat it! Great burritos amd super freindly!!!

  • Alan J.

Good food, friendly staff. I had the barbacoa burrito - very tasty. My wife had the barbacoa taco - she says 'very good'. Yeah, this is a chain, but hey, good food is good food. I especially appreciated the friendliness of the staff, helping decide on details (which sauce etc). I'd definitely go back.

  • Jim G.

Extremely tasty food. Filling. They will make it however you want. Consistently fresh. Very fast service, especially the drive through. Fair price. Really no negative things to say about Cafe Rio. (Still wish this town had a Chipotle though.).

Mexican Cuisine

If you enjoy Taco Tuesday, then you have officially fallen in love with the Mexican Food. The main grain of Mexican cuisine is maize. Also known as corn, maize is grown for the past 9000 years after the crop was discovered by the people in Mayan civilization. Mexican empire flourished when they started growing beans, tomatoes, chili pepper, sweet potato and cactus. Till this date these ingredients are used in cooking authentic Mexican dishes and drinks.

Great use of spices, fresh chili pepper dishes like fajitas, tortilla chips, corn chips, salsa, chimichangas, burritos, nachos and quesadillas are invented in America. But when you are looking for authentic Mexican food then you must find a restaurant in the city that serves Rajas con Queso, Garbanzo in a Guajillo Chile Sauce, Pork Filled Chiles Rellenos, Chiles en Nogada, Molcajete Salsa, Pico de Gallo and Frijoles de la Olla. An eye-opening fact – Mexican don't like their food hot. They use fresh chili and other spices to create a flavor that lingers in your mouth.

Mexican food is great for those who are Gluten Intolerant as they use Corn instead of wheat in most of their dishes. Also, you can easily find many beans based Mexican dishes. Another dish which didn't get similar glory as tacos or nachos is the Mexican hot chocolate. If you love something hot on a chilly day, then go for Mexican Hot Chocolate. On merry days, you can enjoy the authentic Mexican Drinks like Tequila, Mezcal, Tecuí, Sotol, Bacanora, Charanda, Posh O Pox, Puebla and Pulque. Mexican Cuisine is for people who enjoy strong drinks and hearty meals.
